The Alamo Lake Creek was the proud host of two sold out crowds on the closing night of Dismember the Alamo. One for the Zombie Shorts Program and one for the Texas premiere of Dead Snow. This is exceptionally good news because we know every place in town had something going on for Halloween night. It is comforting to know that there are that many loyal zombie fans ! For Dead Snow there were even German soldier zombies in attendance!

The shorts screening was as fun as ever with cheers, laughter and plenty of audible “what the…” at all the right moments. After an impromptu costume contest the awards were announced. The winner, BY ONE VOTE, of the Audience award went to Andrew Reyes for his short Absinthe Makes the Dead Live Longer! Third place was awarded to Tom Martino for his bizzare film Race War. Second place went to Joe Nicolosi for his short about Twitter during the outbreaks #Zombies. And first place went to a animated short that was made using overhead projectors: David King’s ZZZZombies all the way from Edinburgh, UK!

Thank you to EVERYONE who took the time to submit a short. Please be thinking of your zombie short for next year starting … now!

Playing Left4Dead in the lobby last night was SUCH a blast. Communicating with total strangers on the earpieces and coordinating to meet in the Alamo Drafthouse Lake Creek manager’s office to stand off against the undead with actual Alamo Lake Creek managers was quite the experience. Night of the Comet delivered what it promised, valley girls with guns and plenty of frizzy hair. PKWProductions entertained an enthralled crowd with arias, spooky classical pieces, original compositions and the theme songs from Twilight Zone and Twin Peaks, which we still can’t get out of our heads.

Tonight we screen a Canadian zombie movie centered around radio transmissions called Pontypool. This has only previously screened at SXSW in Texas so we are thrilled to give it another chance to grace the silver screen. Get your advance tickets HERE. We close tonight with two features crammed into 2 hours along with all sorts of other extras via Horror Remix. This will be the first time that the creator of Horror Remix –EJ- will be able to see his creation at an Alamo Drafthouse! "Rising from Pittsburgh as the '60s boiled over, George Romero’s zombie classic Night Of The Living Dead took the notion of a world turned upside down to its visceral extreme. As if overturned accepted notions seep down to a biological level, the dead prey on the living without hesitation, a low-fi shock the film’s many imitators (even its fine sequels) haven't dulled. Shot in creepy black and white, the film’s technical proficiency is remarkable considering the production team’s lack of previous feature experience and budgetary constraints. A stock musical score (shared with more dubious drive-in titles like The Killer Shrews) was one result of those constraints—a disservice partially undone by this entry in composer P. Kellach Waddle's "Music And A Movie" series."

Thank you to everyone who came out and participated in yesterday’s zombie walk! As far as we can tell this was the best and largest crowd yet! The outfits were out of this world this year, the zombie marching band made a triumphant return and did an excellent job of leading our lurch to the capitol steps. There was a zombie dog, zombie children and just when this sentence was getting a tad too wholesome this happens: a zombie pervert flasher with a severed member.

In this country, the law provides equal protection for every man, woman, and child.  These inalienable rights have been a point of pride for us as Americans.  But, for far too long now, the rights of one particular minority group have been overlooked.  Universally reviled and discriminated against, this group has not been afforded the liberties that others take for granted.  The right to marry, the right to vote, the right to bear arms; the most fundamental tenets of our society have all been denied based on a culture of fear and ignorance.  

It’s high time that the powers-that-be heed our cries for justice as we march to the capitol in support of EQUAL RIGHTS FOR THE UNDEAD!  On Sunday, October 25th at 5pm, we will gather the undead masses at the teacher’s retirement system parking lot on 10th and Red River to stage a lurch through downtown and straight to the steps of the capitol building.  No crowbar to the head or shotgun blast to the face can stop us from making our position known.  Our unearthly moans and ravenous cries for brains will be heard!  

All zombies shall converge at 10th and Red River at 5pm on Sunday geared up and ready to march.  Creative signage and dress is encouraged.  Stick around afterwards for a zombie happy hour at Club Deville.  Giveaways from Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Mansion of Terror will be available while supplies last.  

ATTENTION zombie comic heads. One of your favorite zombie comics is heading to the silver screen. Variety has announced that American Movie Classics has picked up The Walking Dead comics to be developed into a weekly series. AMC has tapped Writer/Director Frank Darabont (The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption) for his experience with both the horror genre and human drama, which should be interesting. With the original comic content, and a talented Writer/Director - The Walking Dead is in good hands.
When asked about the new project Joel Stillerman, AMC’s Senior VP explained

“This is not about zombies popping out of closets,” Stillerman said. “This is a story about survival, and the dynamics of what happens when a group is forced to survive under these circumstances. The world (in ‘Walking Dead’) is portrayed in a smart, sophisticated way.”

It's that time of year again, the time where we must remind the world that it is not Decepticons, Terminators, or sparkling vampires that frighten the world. It is mindless, bloodthirsty zombies! Yes, that means it's time to begin preparing for the Alamo Drafthouse's weekend of celebrating all things undead, infected, and zombified - the third annual Dismember the Alamo Zombie Film Festival at the Alamo Drafthouse Lake Creek.

In addition to all sorts of Dismember the Alamo gear, cash prizes this year are $300, $150, an $75 respectively for 1st 2nd and 3rd place.

The deadline for submissions to be postmarked is October 13th. All entrants will be notified of their acceptance shortly there after. The screening for the shorts will be held on halloween (October 31st) and if you have ever attended these in the past you know how fun they are!

The only rules are that the films have to contain at least one zombie and be ten minutes or less!
